Hampton Roads is the name for the southeastern region of Virginia. The area got it’s name from the nautical term “Hampton Roads” meaning safe harbor. The area is bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, where the James River, Nansemond River, and Elizabeth River meet the Chesapeake Bay.
Hampton Roads has been ranked the 31 largest Metropolitan Statistical Area in the United States. Our area is home to 1.6 million people. Hampton Roads includes seven major cities: Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Newport News, Hampton, and Portsmouth.
Hampton Roads is an excellent family community. Beautiful parks, beaches, museums and other recreational facilities are available. Many seasonal festivals are held annually including the Virginia Arts Festival, Norfolk Azalea Festival, AFRAM Festival, Suffolk Peanut Festival, Chesapeake Jubilee, Portsmouth Seawall Arts Festival, Hampton Bay Days and Virginia Beach Neptune Festival and more!
